Stick It

Dude Perfect got 61 in a minute, another serial Guinness World Record breaker got 83, I got 133. That’s the difference between proper preparation and practice, just winging it, and giving it a good try.

The record was for the most thumbtacks stuck into a corkboard in one minute. You could use 2 hands but only move one tack per hand at a time. Some records are made easier than others and I could tell the original breaker of this record (Cory Cotton of Dude Perfect) hadn’t practiced very much when he made his attempt. It was broken by another (Andre Ortolf out of Germany) without breaking a sweat without a ton of practice. Just a little preparation and practice and I was able to stick this record.

At the end of the minutes the tacks had to remain stuck in the board for over 10 seconds and I blew one off that wasn’t properly stuck. I was then counting them and almost halfway through I found one laying down. I had to review the video evidence to see that it fell over without me touching it a good minute after the original minute had expired and it counted.

Batter Up

I walked just over 9 laps in 41 minutes 30 seconds with a 918-gram baseball bat on my chin. I fought the sun in my eyes and disorientation in my brain. I walked away with another Guinness World Records title.

The mark to beat was 3,000 meters and I went 3,600 (plus the extra distance from walking in lanes 2-7 that didn’t count).

My wife gave me verbal directions and I walked around the track so I knew where I was by calling out lanes 1-8 as I walked into them and told me when I started the curves and the straight-aways. Sometimes I could see the bleachers, press box, or scoreboard as a reference point, but for the most part, I was reliant on her.

101 Rolls on the Head

This weeks’ record post was a doozy. The video ended up being a highlight reel of failures. I stacked (and toppled) a couple of thousand rolls of toilet paper before the record finally fell.

The challenge to this record isn’t exactly balancing things on my head – which I can do for hours with ridged objects. The trick to this record is that all the toilet paper rolls have to be stacked on a single roll that is placed on the head. The catch is that toilet paper is not rigid – neither is the flimsy cardboard roll at its center. This means that any imbalance in weight distribution or strength of the roll results in the stack tipping. The tip further weakens the structure and quickly leading to a cascade effect. Many times I didn’t even get the stack of toilet paper on my head before it toppled. Other times, I would get the stack balanced on my forehead, but a few seconds into the tower gently swaying, it would collapse one direction or the other. Any correction to the balance had to be made slowly and evenly since the rolls of toilet paper weren’t tightly bonded. If I moved fast to one side, the bottom roll would move with me and the top would just stay in place.

In the end, a stack somewhere between fat and short and skinny and tall worked best: a pyramid stacked atop an inverse pyramid that ended with a single roll of toilet paper upon my head.

Fruit Ninja Level 10

I believe this is the 10th fruit ninja record I have broken. It is also the most fruit I have ever sliced in one minute using a Samurai sword.

This record was for the most kiwi fruits sliced in one minute while standing on a balance board. I have now broken all the samurai fruit-slicing records twice: grapes and kiwifruits standing on a balance board and swiss ball. That’s 8 of the 10. The other two were for the most apples sliced in one minute and 30 seconds while juggling 3 knives. Check the 1 minute one out here:

Jonathan “Hollywood” Hannon was my ambidextrous thrower again (as he has been for all 10), not losing his focus despite being only inches from the tip of my sword while I swayed freely on the balance board.

He threw every kiwi I gave him in the one-minute interval. Three were not completely sliced through and one was sliced just after the minute expired for a total official count of 85 kiwis sliced in one minute. For the next few days, there was no shortage of kiwis for either the neighbor family or mine to eat.

Broken Glass

Broken glass but not before a broken record.

I was able to successfully balance 19 glasses on a stick held in my mouth for over 10 seconds before they all came crashing down breaking all over the place.

Fortunately, no one was hurt (not even myself) and the glasses weren’t from Jennifer’s favorite set.

The previous record was 15 glasses balanced and I got 19.

Chair Sitting on the Chin

Sometimes it’s uncomfortable sitting on a chair for over an hour without moving where you’re positioned. Imagine inversing the position.

For this world record attempt, I balanced the chair on my chin for over an hour. It had to be a full-sized adult chair.

The previous record was 1 hour 2 minutes 18 seconds. I was thinking maybe I could make a run at extending this record for a lot longer but I had some issues crop up with my neck in pain, legs fatiguing, and body not in shape, and after 1 hour 8 minutes 39 seconds I took the chair off my chin.

Giant Ball Pass

“Super” Seth Lemons stepped in this week for Jonathan “Hollywood” Hannon and achieved 356 passes of a giant inflatable ball in 3 minutes to take down the latest World Record.

The previous record was 180 passes in 3 minutes. We achieved 356. We did also break the record for most consecutive passes with 4,169 so we did have a bit of practice. We crushed it.

In our front yard with a bit of practice, we were able to take down this record without too much trouble (it did take a couple of attempts).

Hope to see you next time!

200 World Records Broken

Jonathan “Hollywood” Hannon tossed me every kiwi we had and I sliced 74 of them in 1 minute to retake our record for the most Kiwis sliced in one minute while standing on a Swiss Ball.

I have now broken 200 World Records titles.

The journey started just over 5 and a half years ago.

In this video, I relive some of the highlights with honorable mentions for the hardest records I’ve broken, some cool experiences, including being eviscerated on national television (thanks James Corden!), and then for the 5 and a half years, I break down the 5 hardest records I have ever broken, including this one.

Check out my channel for more!

Honorable mentions:

1) Most bites taken from three apples whilst juggling in one minute

2) Most table tennis balls bounced against a wall with the mouth in 30 seconds

3) Most flying disc catches behind the back minute

4) Fewest juggling catches in one minute (three balls)

Top 5 hardest records I’ve ever broken.

5. Farthest distance travelled on foot whilst juggling three objects

4. Most kiwifruits sliced in the air with a sword whilst standing on a Swiss ball (this one!)

3. Most apples sliced in one minute while juggling knives (team of two) (Hollywood Hannon is the bomb)

2. Most juggling catches in one minute (three balls)

1. Fastest mile joggling with three objects whilst blindfolded (male)

Heads Up

I have successfully reclaimed my Guinness World Records title for “Longest duration balancing an object on the head” with a 2 hour 36 minute 6 second run of balancing a 2 lb 9 oz garden hoe on my head.

This record is a war of attrition. Once you can balance a light (ish) object on your head for over 20 minutes it comes down to physical and mental stamina. How long are you going to go?

I rotate between 3 main positions to prevent cramping in the neck and back muscles: 1) arms folded across the chest which provides support to the ribs holding up the spine 2) arms on the hips, also providing support but not quite as much, and 3) arms behind the neck to work out the muscles in the neck.

After over 2.5 hours I’d had enough and I took the hoe off my forehead. I walked around like an old man for a while since my bones felt like they were fused together, but I’m happy with the result. The yellow patch on my forehead disappeared after a couple of hours as well.

It’s a (Re)Wrap

This is the stuff fantasies are made of: a beautiful woman, saran wrap…. and my wife is breaking a World record with me (evidence submitted and pending official approval).

We first broke the record for the fastest time to wrap a person in cling/plastic wrap almost 2 years ago. It took a dozen attempts plus practices and we were able to shave 2 seconds off the previous mark of 1 minute 59 seconds. This time we were even more prepared. We learned a lot from the last attempts and I’ve been waiting for the day someone else broke our record. It happened and so it was time to reclaim it. Their time was 1 minute 29 seconds knocking nearly 30 seconds off our record. It took another 9 rolls of plastic food wrap, multiple attempts and practices per roll, and a couple of near misses with small patches not covered on her body, but this time we finally got it down to 1 minute, 2.44 seconds. Unwrapping took 55 seconds.

In case you think there are huge improvements to be made on the technique, the arms and legs must be wrapped individually and the wrap can’t rip or tear or the attempt is disqualified. I still think there is some room for improvement so I’ll be waiting for the next challenger to take on this record. And then I may be faster wrapping than unwrapping!
